Bj has developed another pneumothorax (air pocket which causes the lung to collapse or not be able to expand) around his left lung. However, it is small, and has not affected his SAT's (oxygenation percentage). For now we will leave him on his tummy. When he is turned tomorrow, if the pneumo does not go away, they may put a third chest tube in. Lets pray it disappears, in Jesus Name, and by the power of His blood!
Being on blood thinners, makes surgery risky. Otherwise, he is stable.

(Betsy the picture was a word picture, but I will see what we can do...Thanks!)

I thought I would explain the PINK t-shirts. This past summer, BJ and my wife were on a mission trip with First Baptist Mooresville. At the conclusion of the trip, my son was "souvenir" shopping with 2 girls from our youth group. With their INFLUENCE, and my sons own desire to embarrass his father, he chose a PINK shirt with raccoons on it. He proudly wore this shirt upon arrival home. I was there to pick them up, and he watched for my reaction to his shirt. I was disgusted, and instantly gave him grief. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED in Beej's eyes. So much so that just before he left for his Peru mission trip, he bought me a pink dress shirt for Father's Day (which I opened in his absence). He has a great sense of humor and irony. Hope you don't mind a little insight into other aspects of Beej.

That is why the t-shirts are pink...and a few black ones for people like my friend Matt L. who don't think that real men wear pink. By the way...my choice of the two? I wear pink.

We as a family wish we could give back to all of you somehow. Please know that we pray for you, and thank our Lord and Savior for your obedience to him.

Beej's dad

please keep telling us where you're from!

Gracious Heavenly Father,
Please help the pneumo to go away so that BJ does not have to go through more surgery. Please place your healing hand upon him and heal him 100%! Thank you for his great sense of humor.

Guess we can add "think pink" to "pray for BJ," right! Bet you can't wait till he really wakes up and sees you wearing that PINK shirt. . .

We are continuing to pray and appreciate the specifics.

God I pray for BJ's left lung with the air pocket. Please make that get better without having to add another tube. You know that adding a tube with thin blood can cause more bleeding problems and I just pray for your guidance as the doctors make decisions. Continue to help the medical staff to see your love as they care for BJ.

Brent & Deanna -
I hope you all are trying to get some rest today. We are praying that BJ's air pocket goes away & that he won't even need surgery! We keep trying to get Matt & Todd in pink shirts, but alas, it's no avail - Todd ordered black. :) Maybe we should order an infant size for Andrew in pink? I bet Todd wouldn't let him wear it! :) We love you guys so much - you're in our constant prayers.

Love,
Jes, Todd & Andrew

As I've been praying for BJ thoughout the morning I've had worship music on, and the song below was playing. (Being an Australian, transplanted here in the US this is one of my favorite Christian groups.) As I listened to the lyrics I thought this is BJ, that they are singing about. His commitment and love to and for the Lord overflows into the lives of others.
I read the Awestar page on "Why BJ" and was touched and moved to the point of tears. I can't say it enough, BJ thank you for being so transparent, thank you as you lay there in your hospital bed that you touch so many lives, thank you that through your testimony of love and devotion for the Lord I have drawn closer and closer to my Father. I will be forever grateful. Thank you family that you so selflessly give of yourselves and of your son. May God bless you all abundantly, so much that it cannot be contained. Continuing to pray for my brother in Christ.

Mr. Higgins,

I think I speak for all of us when I say that your family has already given back to us. I've never met BJ, but I was in band and some other classes with Whitney at Fall Creek Valley Middle School. Now I'm at Ball State and my sister Kristen told me about BJ back in August, and I've been praying for him several times a day since then. When I say that you have already given back to us, I mean that you and your family, and especially BJ have inspired me greatly. This summer, I went on a mission trip with some of my youth group to Panama, and I, like BJ, fell in love with the Lord again and tried my hardest to witness to the Panamanians. May the Lord heal BJ and bless the rest of your family!

Thank you so much for insite to the joking side of BJ. Please share other stories that you think of. Like others have said, you and your family have already given so much to us, especially BJ. I can't put into words what he has done for me. I am still amazed at the insite he has at such a young age. Thank you for such an amazing son, along with amazing daughters too! We will continue to pray for you guys, that BJ will get better, and that you all can have some rest.

1 Corinthians 12:26-27
If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

As fellow parts of the body of Christ, we suffer with you, yet we rejoice with you that God is using your son and your family to be such a strong witness and source of inspiration for the rest of us.
God bless you and yours ...

thank you...........You look great in pink and the way you express yourself at times, has me realize where BJ's
sense of humor comes from. BJ is always a treat when he is a guest in our home. Julie always calls him a brother and can not wait to see her brother BJ. julie asks me daily about a pink pray for BJ shirt. She has actuly been making her own because we did't get signed up at service
Julie will be doing PT 3 X per week at St V and would like to drop a gift to you she has made to comfort all of you.

The pink shirt thing is so funny...when I ordered 5 shirts for the kids, I got 3 blk for the boys & 2 pink for the girls and we had the pink/blk discussion :) We'll be bold wearing either color for BJ!!

We also consider it a joy to join with you & your family to implore, praise, call to the Lord for BJ. Many tears have poured out here over your posts and our prayers. God calls us to seek Him & he will be found & reveal Himself to us, and answer...you have all been a catalist to do that all the more. All for His glory. He uses many avenues for us to stay near - you have given back dearly for His purposes and we praise God for YOU!

Now, we will pray for his lungs nad kidneys before we go onto the next thing.

Can we do anything else practically?? Please remember that we want to serve & it will take you letting us know how else we can help. We stand waiting to know.

You are such and amazing, amazing family. I was telling someone yesterday how much BJ has affected me and how you continue to glorify God even in the worst of hours. We always have people who say the same thing to us regarding Sammy, and I tell them it is the power of Christ. I am glad there are more soldiers out there that I can use as examples of how truly powerful God is. There is a song out now called "Held". It's about God's promise to hold us when we need it. He is holding your family each and every hour. Sammy Yammy's Dad

How I wish that we could fix this situation for you all. If only it were that simple. We know from our own experience the heart ache involved with your child being sick and being powerless in our own strength to fix it. Thankfully we serve a God who is all powerful! Father once again we come with a request. We pray you remove the pneumothorax so BJ's lung can open completely. So much is going on with his body but I know you are aware of all his needs. Continue to enable BJ's body to fight these attacks as they come, until he is back in the "pink" again. Father we look forward to the day when we can worship You with BJ by our side. I am trying to visualize what that day will be like. The day that BJ is able to walk, wear his pink shirt sit and stand along side us and sing praises together. Oh what a worship service of praise and thanksgiving that will be. Is it selfish to ask that this day comes soon dear God??

Word of God Speak...would you
pour down like rain washing my eyes to see, your majesty. To be still and know you're in this place, please let me stay and rest in your Holiness, Word of God Speak.

Oh Father how we listen to hear Your voice through all of this. Speak to BJ while his body fights to regain its health. Let him know the multitudes that are lifting him up in prayer. Protect him, keep him from harm. Return him to us whole in body and spirit. We ask in the name of Jesus.....Make it so Lord God....Love Phil & Paula

How fantastic to see a lighter mood in so many responses. I'm so happy to hear that things are somewhat stabilized and I pray (in agreement with so many others) that the pneumo will dissapate so that an additional tube is not necessary.
Thank you Lord for your continued faithfulness. Thank you for this family that has allowed us to see them in all their vulnerabilites and in their rejoicing. We ask you to continue to give them what they need for each hour and each day. Thank you for the friends I feel like I'm beginning to know from this site. Brent and Deanna, my parents have been visiting with us the last few days as they are coming through to go to the Quartet convention in Louisville. They have been praying for BJ and send their love and support. My mom just called me and told me the neatest thing. Last night they met up with their friends at the convention and they were sharing about BJ. Their friends said "Hey we saw a flyer last night at the convention about a young man who went to Peru on a mission trip that needed prayer. What did you say his name was?" My mom said his name is BJ. "That's it!" the friend said.

God is the best!!!!

I pray that you have all had a peaceful day and it continues into the night. It's time you all get to "breathe" a little and get some much needed rest. We continue to lift BJ up to our Lord for complete healing in His time. Each small step taken is one for rejoicing! Thank you for being such wonderful witnesses to the world in handling a crisis situation. BJ is a wonderful young man with so much insight into what a relationship with the Lord is really about! We all need to learn from his example. He's had wonderful parents as is seen through this website. May God continue to bless your family in a mighty way.

BJ sounds like my kind of kid!!

Higgins, you HAVE given to us! You've given us the privilege of praying for you and encouraging you and lifting you up to the Father. Every time God gives me a song or a scripture to pass on to you, it encourages me and blesses me, too. Participating in this stage of your family's life is teaching all of us that we serve the God of the impossible.

Still praying....

Draw me close to you
Never let me go
I lay it all down again
To hear You say that I'm Your friend

You are my desire
No one else will do
'Cause nothing else could take your place
To feel the warmth of your embrace
Help me find the way
Bring me back to you

CHORUS:
You're all I want
You're all I've ever needed
You're all I want
Help me know you are near

Higgins family,

First thanks for the insight into the pink shirts.

My reason for this post though is to make sure you understand that you are "giving back" to us. You are sharing your son with the entire world. Many families would not be so open in their thoughts and fears. By allowing us to see the strength in Jesus and the "Peace that surpases all understanding" you are giving back to us in ways that we could never thank YOU for. You have set a standard that we should all strive for as families and most importantly as Christians. Please do not burden yourselves with "give back". We are all blessed by you and love you more than we could ever show.

Thinking Upward!
