Dr. Sichting just stopped by to update us. She told us they have found that his lower left lung lobe never has re-expanded. She had an ultrasound done today, and discovered he has thin fluid and thick fluid in his chest cavity, preventing it.

She has a surgeon coming by this evening or in the morning to re-adjust his chest tube on the left side to try and drain the thin fluid. The thick fluid is likely clotted blood, and will require scraping, which cannot happen while he is on blood thinners. The hope is that draining the thin fluid will allow re-expansion.

Skin care Nurse, Nancy came by today to look at Beej's multiple skin breakdown issues. The worst bedsore has little change, but the multiple small lesions are healing faster than she expected! We Praise Jesus for this! She was enthused, too.

Much fluid has been removed from BJ's body, but much still resides there, putting pressure on his kidneys, and keeping them from functioning. Keep praying, please?!

Please continue to leave your name city, state or country with your blogs as we are still trying to map for BJ all the places he/we are hearing from!

The Lord has even placed some of His own in the computer department here at St. V's who are helping us with technical "stuff". Isn't our God Good?

Heavenly Father,
Please heal my brother and friend. Please help the fluid in his lungs be drained...all of it so that re-expansion can occur! Please heal his bedsores....especially his worst one. Please bring complete healing to those. Please help the rest of the fluid in his body be drained so that it takes pressure off of his kidneys so they can start functioning again. Just place your healing hand on BJ and do an even greater miracle than we have already seen! I thank you and praise you for all that you have already done. I love you Lord!
Amen

Nurse Nancy is wonderful! She followed Sam when he was in the NICU. We haven't seen her for almost two years, but we remember her fondly. She will take great care of BJ's skin!

I am coming to the hospital on Friday evening to visit a friend of Sam's on the 4th floor. If there is anything you need or anything I can bring you, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail message. (sharley72@comcast.net)

I'm happy to hear that they have identified a source in his lungs which may be the cause of his desats. We continue to pray for all procedures to be successful and bring healing.

I always tell my Sammy that he is the bravest boy that I know, but I think BJ is right up there in the bravery department too.

Just keep hanging in there and don't be discouraged.

Higgins family,

BJ's journal entries remind me so much of David's writings. I love to hear his heart, so keep 'em coming! We in Northern VA are praying for BJ, and praise God for the revelations He's shown the doctors thus far.

May some of David's words comfort you this evening, and give you rest.

Psalms 28: 1-2, 6-9

1 Lord, I call to You; my rock, do not be deaf to me. If You remain silent to me, I will be like those going down to the Pit.
2 Listen to the sound of my pleading when I cry to You for help, when I lift up my hands toward Your holy sanctuary.

6 May the Lord be praised, for He has heard the sound of my pleading. 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart rejoices, and I praise Him with my song.
8 The Lord is the strength of His people; He is a stronghold of salvation for His anointed.
9 Save Your people, bless Your possession, shepherd them, and carry them forever.

My husband and i are bible college students and had planned to go to peru on a missions trip this past summer. BJ seems like a young man with an amazing heart for the Father. I pray that the Lord will touch his body with a miracle! We often do not understand things in this life but we must trust because we have an almighty and sovereign God. I pray he will wrap his loving arms around you during this time.

Recently I began attending classes through one of St. V's educational programs. It wasn't long before BJ was mentioned--he's a very special patient here and I would be surprised if there was anyone on the staff that didn't know of him. We are all praying that his stats take a miraculous turn--and eagerly await each entry in hopes of good news.

I try and walk by his room every day just to see how he's doing. The pictures on his door and in the blog personify him as such an amazing individual. I truly look forward to meeting BJ when he's back on his feet :)

(The other day I was called to help with one of his procedures--and felt lucky to be in his presence. I agree with others who have said that there is an "air" about him. His room has such a bright, loving energy to it... he definitely has more than a few angels looking over him.)

You constantly thank god but rarely, if ever, thank the nurses and doctors who are the ones contributing most to BJs health on your blog. Not thanking the doctors and nurses is akin to saying that their help is not needed and the only one truly deserving of praise is god. If thats the case, take BJ out of the hospital and put him in a church. If, however, you truly value the work these people are doing for the health and safety of your son then do not neglect to thank the doctors and nurses.

I have never met the Higgins family, and I am only aware of them through this blog. I wanted to respond to the previous post. If you will read through the entries over the past few weeks, you will see the names of doctors (Sichting, Ruppel, Belcher, Metz, Williams, Chatten). You will see names of many nurses and respiratory therapists. Over and over again, BJ's parents have talked about the wonderful care that they have received from the medical staff. (And although they probably haven't mentioned it on the blog, I'm sure that even the housekeeping staff, cafeteria staff, and even the receptionist at the front desk know how much they are loved and appreciated by the Higgins family.)

Not only is the Higgins family thankful to the medical team, many of the bloggers have thanked them for taking such good care of BJ and the Higgins family.

Lord, we just pray for the healing of BJ's lungs. We ask you Father to remove the fluids, both thick and thin by your mighty hand. We are grateful for the daily improvements. We know BJ has a long way to go and so we faithfully come before you praying on his behalf. I ask you to continue to supply the needs of Brent, Deanna, Lauren and Whitney. I pray also for Dr. Sichting and the rest of the staff and ask you to continue to bless them with wisdom and knowledge. I pray for a peaceful night for all. Thank you Lord for hearing our prayers and for being faithful to us. We love you so much.
In Jesus powerful name I pray. Amen.

For Bj and Family,

Keep your Eyes on Jesus and not at the storm. He (Jesus)knows and He will steadily walk with you through it all... Psalms 23:4 "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, i will fear no evil: For you are with me, Your rod and Your staff they comfort me". Psalms 34:15 "the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry". Psalms 46:10 "Be still and Know that I am God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"
Isaiah 50:7 "For the Lord God will help Me; therefore I will not be disgraced; therefore I will set my face like a flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed".

God bless you all, and give you His comfort. He is loving and compassionate. He is very near to you right now as it is written in Psalms 34:18 "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit."

God will exalt himself in Bj's life! Amen
My prayers are with you!
