Late last night and this morning, 2 different doctors have given us a little room to believe that BJ's improvements, though small, are a good sign. I believe sometimes I struggle to understand exactly what the doctors mean, and try to read between the lines. Misinterpretation can follow.

I was wrong about his fever being under control. He has had one of 100+ overnight and this morning. However, Dr.'s are believing that it is all part of the response to the wound cleaning procedure. They have both remarked about how well he tolerated that procedure, and with little to no drug assistance. Praise Jesus for His intervention in this, as this was unexpected, and part of the reason they once again began to prepare us for his passing (this is their job, and I'm glad they have it and not me!).

We continue not to know what the Lord has in store for BJ, but rest assured we believe He is ministering to us through you, the hospital staff, His Word, and through His Holy Spirit. We thank you so much that the Gap is FULL of the Body of Christ!!!

Beej's 10am blood gases were better, and he his holding on well as his ventilator pressure is turned down. Keep bombarding the throne about infection or other potential issues, please.

Father, as a family, we lift a chorus of Praise to and through Your Holy Name! Jesus, we love You...You are amazing!!! Truly we are "Held" in this journey.

I am writing for all the people who are out here, checking daily, hourly, etc for updates on BJ. We are praying for you, the family, the drs, the nurses, and of course for BJ. We may not blog every day and in fact may be afraid to blog, but know that many of us are out here and are in prayer. We may only know one member of your family distantly, or through a friend, but we are praying. We may have seen a t-shirt and not know anyone involved, but we are praying. It is our priveledge to lift you up to our Lord and savior.

It's times like these that we as parents struggle with our children being attacked so feverishly by illness turn to our worldly self wanting to know why our child? I am touched by the strength and reliance in our Heavenly Father you have held steadfastly to during this chapter of your lives.

I've been in less traumatic chapters of my own life, and have turned to Heaven and yelled WHY??? I fully believe that God is indeed ministering through BJ and will continue to do so for far longer than we may ever know.

I never really met BJ, though my two daughters are friends with either him or one of your daughters. Speaking with both of them about BJ, they both tell me he is an amazingly bright and gifted young man. It is obvious he is truly someone who has touched many lives just through reading the comments here.

Please know that you all have made me take a closer look at my own walk with Christ and I must say it is not a pleasant view. I pray for BJ's continued improvement and strength for your family, as I also pray for my walk with Christ. I thank YOU fo your ministering to me and any others who may be struggling as well.

To my dear family, you and BJ are in my everyday prayers. My heart goes out to you at this time - all of this must be so hard to take in. I have confidence that God is doing what He wants to do and things will be accomplished how He has planned. I know that a lot of times it doesn't make it easier but please know that I am thinking and praying for you always.
Oh God, on my face I fall and one request I lay down. Healing in the body of my young brother. You have proved yourself faithful, loving, beautiful and caring, Jesus we ask for just one more thing, and that is that you will make BJ well if it be in perfect will. I praise you that you already know what is going to happen and that you have it all planned exactly like you want it. I pray for this family and ask for comfort and rest within their hearts and physically also, Lord. Christ, You are who You say You are and I love you. Take this infection from BJ's body and help him to become stronger on his own and without the help of machines. You are the great Phyisician and the wonderful Healer and I ask that you will perform a miracle. Whatever the outcome, Father, we will not cease to give you glory and praise. I love you, my dear Jesus and I ask these things in your powerful name, Amen.

I Praise you once again Lord! For the small improvments we have today! This morning was pretty emotional for me. The lord is just one time after another showing me the true depths of his heart as i come time and time again in prayer for my brother. I hope you all are doing well and little more rested today! I am still praying for you all! My heart is quiet today--yet still overflowing with thoughts and prayers for you and BJ. This morning we sang "How great is our God"...and through the tears..some could be understood. But to have the body of christ sing that over me..when i felt so weak. I pray that the strength I felt this morning from the Lord, is what you all may feel. Im still fighting and prayer! Love you!

Father, our faith is being tested. Let us be careful not to assume the outcome of this situation. Let us leave it all in Your most capable hands. Father God, I believe that You will provide healing for BJ! Let us not be afraid to still believe in Your miraculous healing!! When the doctors start preparing us for the worst, let us believe in You for the best! Things look grim right now for BJ. But, that is only in the earthly realm. You have control, Lord! Strengthen our faith and help us to believe! I claim Your victory over BJ's body in the name of Your Son, Jesus. Lord, I say a special prayer for BJ's family - that they will have renewed faith and courage. Help them to put BJ in Your hands, completely. And, help them to know, without a shadow of a doubt, that You are working a miracle in BJ's body, even as they read this. Father, I praise You and thank You. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

God is still working!! Don't give up on Him now!! Bless you all as you go through this extra difficult time.

MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST...
by Oswald Chambers
Sept.25
"Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two" (Matthew 5:41)
Our Lord's teaching can be summed up in this: the relationship that He demands for us is an impossible one unless He has done a super-natural work in us. Jesus Christ demands that His disciple does not allow even the slightest trace of resentment in his heart when faced with tyranny and injustice. No amount of enthusiasm will ever stand up to the strain that Jesus Christ will put upon His servant. Only one thing will bear the strain, and that is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ Himself-a relationship that has been examined, purified, and tested until only one purpose remains and I can truly say "I am here for God to send me where He will." Everything else may become blurred, but this relationship with Jesus Christ must never be.
The sermon on the Mount is not some unattainable goal; it is a statement of what will happen in me when Jesus Christ has changed my nature by putting His own nature in me. Jesus christ is the only one who can fulfill the Sermon on the Mount.
If we are to be disciples of Jesus, we must be made disciples supernaturally. And as long as we consciously maintain the determined purpose to be His disciples, we can be sure that we are not disciples. Jesus says, "You did not choose Me, but I Chose you..." (John 15:16). That is the way the grace of God begins. It is a constraint we can never escape; we can disobey it, but we can never start it or produce it ourselves. We are drawn to God by a work of His supernatural grace, and we can never trace back to find where the work began. Our Lord's making of a disciple is supernatural. He does not build on any natural capacity of ours at all. God does not ask us to do the things that are naturally easy for us- He only asks us to do the things that we are perfectly fit to do through His grace, and that is where the cross we ust bear will always come.

Continually praying on bended knee for God's faithful servant B.J. May God be glorified in Him.

Brent, Deanna, Lauren & Whitney, My body may have been present at Northside this morning but my heart and Spirit was with you. I know the doctors have to prepare you for what may happen but can't help but continue to believe God for a miracle as long as there is breath in BJ. Your family is such an inspiration. I feel so inadequate to say the right things to encourage you. The comfort I can offer is that as perhaps no other time in your lives I believe God the Father is watching over you so very closely though His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. BJ is very dear to the Father and regardless of what happens BJ holds a special place in His Kingdom. Wish I was there just to hug on you and not say a word. Many times a hug can say more than words can express. So I'm sending you a hug with the deepest love I have in my being. I will not cease to pray for you and BJ and claim complete and total victory over satan. I love you........Phil

We are thankful for even the smallest of improvements! I received my pink t-shirt yesterday - wearing it today as we all continue to lift BJ and your family up to our gracious Lord. Our SS lesson this morning was about being "bold" in our witness (from Acts 3 and 4). I kept thinking of BJ and how I have learned from him what it means to be a bold witness. These verses really hit me:

"Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus. After they prayed, the place wehre they were meeting was shaken. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly."
Acts 4:29-31

I pray that miraculous signs, wonders and healing will be given to BJ in the name of Jesus Christ and that those here who are witness will be filled by the Holy Spirit and speak the word of God boldly!

I pray for peace and comfort for BJ's Mom, Dad, Sisters and extended family as they "be still and wait" on the Lord.

Always in my thoughts and prayers!

Your brothers and sisters at The Church at the Crossing are still praying and lifting BJ and the family before God's throne of grace. Many people asked how BJ was doing and we prayed for him in our Sunday School class as well.

Our sermon today was titled, "Take Courage and Do Not Be Afraid." WOW!!! I think the Lord sent that one just for me!

Joshua 1:9 says:
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Romans 8: 26-27:
"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will."

From my notes I saw BJ and was challenged to follow his example of being totally sold out to Christ.

1. It requires courage to fulfill the purpose God has for our lives. Courage comes from the Father.

2. We are to have courage and step out in faith depending totally on the Father to accomplish what He has told us to do. Don't be discouraged, it all depends on God.

3. The Lord has too much at stake in this world to have followers with small committments. (Thank you BJ for committing your all!)

4. It takes courage to recognize God is in complete control.

Just as BJ, I ask, "God, what do you want to do in and through me? Wipe away all fear and give me your spiritual boldness and courage to follow through in whatever you ask me to do."

Thank you for what you are doing in and through BJ, Lord. He is totally in your hands. Please be merciful to him and heal him completely, one step at a time.
Praising you and thanking you in advance, Father, for what you are going to do.
Please continue to be with the Higgins family and give them courage, grace and peace that can only come from you. We love you, praise you and trust you for BJ's life.
In the name of our precious Savior and redeemer, Jesus Christ. Amen
My love,
Lynn

Hey Higgins,
Pink seemed to flood the sanctuary this morning at FBC, Mooresville. Larrys sermon was especially good this morning. It was a first person account of the leper. Made me think what we are praying for here. Jesus touched the leper and he was healed, we ask God to place the same touch on BJ. although not physical, that is exactly what we are doing. Just some of the thoughts that roll into my head. I will pray that BJ will improve, and that the days to come will be ones of hope and healing. Prayin' in pink.

In Christ,

These past weeks, reading updates and messages, and BJ's journal entries have been life changing. I thank God for BJ, for his life, his withness, and for you, his family. I will be on my knees tonight.
ANYONE WHO READS THIS....let this night be a vigil....may we contend for BJ's life throught the night!!!
We love you BJ!!! We love you Lord!!!

Dear Higgins family,
We do continue to lift you and most of all BJ before the throne of God. I know many people are praying today because many, many people responded to the t-shirts worn and wanted to know what the latest update was and so many people are praying for you this moment. In his love, The Rice's OKC,OK

Dear Brent, Deanna, Lauren and Whitney,
It was so good to go to church today and have so many people asking how BJ was doing. I gladly gave them the website to check it out. We are continuing to pray down here in Santa Claus for BJ and for all of you. May our God continue to give you strength for today, encouragement through many people and a peace for your hearts.
I awoke several times last night and prayed for BJ. May God work a mighty miracle today. I want to hear that BJ's kidneys have kicked in and the temperature has gone down, and the infection has been IDENTIFIED TO BE TREATED! Keep on keeping on and know that you are loved and admired by so many for your love of Christ.

We got our t-shirts yesterday. My six year old was so excited that we could wear them to church today. He prays for BJ several times a day and I have been there for every update! Your son has touched my life. He keeps me humbled and awed with his wisdom. Thank you for opening up your lives to us so that we could share this with you. You are constantly in my thoughts and prayers.

Love in Christ,

Tammy Harris (Scott's Mom)

I was wondering if there's any way I could get BJ's journal (the one that you've been posting from) online. His thoughts seem to get me thinking about Him more and more, and i would love to be able to access it here at home. I am still praying for bJ's fight against infestion, and I recently recieved my prayforbj.com t-shirt. I would like to thank you all and awestar for it.
With Love,
Sarah Beth

Father,
I praise you for the small steps forward that BJ is making. Please turn these small steps into giant leaps! I ask that you heal my BJ so that he can continue to further your gospel! Please....leave your willing witness here a little longer.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh how I am praying! I woke up sick this morning at about 1am, which led me to pray for BJ like none other! I missed church because I was too sick and that just kept me home and praying for ya'll to endure this trial! I was reading that book by MercyMe (I Can Only Imagine) this afternoon and as tears rolled for my Gramma, even more rolled for our PRECIOUS LORD that someday we will be in His presence to look in His face - see the scars in His hands and the wound in His side! In case you are wondering - I think I'd stand SO in AWE of Jesus while I danced before our King! But who knows ... I just want to PRAISE HIM! I want to encourage you by telling you that I have fallen more in Love with Jesus DAILY through sharing this experience with you... to God be ALL the Glory!

Lord bless you always,
