This morning finds a flurry of activity in BJ's room. Since the medical staff work 12 hour shifts, there are more people available at shift change time (7am/7pm). When I walked in a few minutes ago, 25 year old fireball nurse Natalie (happy birthday) was giving direction to other staff as they were moving BJ from his bed to an OR bed which will be used in his room (which doubles as an OR for apparent reasons). The surgery time is still 3pm, but to wait till later to move him would draw on too many staff from rooms they are needed in. When Natalie gives direction...it's best to do what you're told. (She is awesome, and we have been thrilled with her care).

BJ had a good night...Praise Jesus! His numbers are good this morning and we are very thankful. I hope and pray BJ has the opportunity to meet these nurses, RT's, perfusionists, and dr's who have been providing such wonderful care to him.

This morning, nurse Diana, who has been off for a few days arrived with a card in hand...laden with scripture and comfort. Social Worker Jennifer has done the leg work on so many trivial matters just to try to keep us going. Last Friday night when at probably one of the lower points of my life, nurse Anita, found me outside, and offered much needed encouragement and support...she told a story about how the there was such a sweet presence of the Holy Spirit in BJ's room at the conclusion of one of his procedures. Nurse Melissa went to Northside and gave blood, and has come in early, and covered extra days... not her normal weekend shift, to help cover BJ. RT Melissa suffers endlessly at my teasing and making fun of her...always smiles. Nurse Donna...our first nurse, and a pillar of strength for us. Nurse Susan...what a bedside manner..she is just amazing and gives us such detail when we don;t understand. These are just a few of the incredible staff here. I am probably in trouble for starting a list as there are sooo many wonderful staff. But Lord, I pray that you specifically bless and encourage these in this day, whether they are working or not. They call when not "on" to check on his progress. Truly, we are blessed to be here.

Please lift these and other staff before the "Throne of Grace." I cannot imagine surviving with a lesser staff!

Praise be to God for His constant provision!

Brent,

I believe God puts those people there for us. We became very close to our nurses also when our son was sick. They are very special people. One of our nurses named her son after ours, and one went on to be a nun after telling her her how much we needed her.

I will by praying today
Love, Tammy

2Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing. 4Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.
5All this is evidence that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power 10on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

11With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. 12We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.[b]

Be encouraged dear family as you draw on the multitude of prayers that are flooding the Throne. As always we are standing with you especially today and pray total success for ALL the procedures on BJ this day. MAKE IT SO LORD JESUS ! We love you..Phil & Paula

It gives me goosebumps to read the stories you are sharing about BJ's nurses, RTs, etc. Not only do they care for the patients, they care for the families as well! During our son's stays there, they have become almost family to us--especially the night shift as they are the ones there when the unit is quiet and you can't sleep at night. (And, they are the ones who listen to the parents snoring while they sleep!) I am so proud of them for taking such good care of BJ and all of you. There is a special bond formed when you have a critically ill child, and you will never forget them. BJ's medical team will hold a very special place in your heart and your memory for the rest of your lives.

We are praying that the procedure today goes exceedingly well, and that this would be an encouraging turning point in BJ's recovery. We will be watching for updates throughout the day.

It is good to check in & see that BJ had a restful & quiet night. We continue to pray for the procedures ahead & pray that complications will be void & recovery will be quick. Praying also for your strength, comfort & peace as you face each new day & each new challenge that it might bring. We love you guys!

Isn't great how sometimes God provides for our emotional and personal needs through people in our lives, or those He brings into our lives!?

We'll be praying for these special people ( and the other caregivers) and through the procedures. . .

Deut. 31:8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. (NIV)

Lord we know you have specifically placed all these people of medical profession in the Higgins's lives for a definitive reason. They are there, yes, to provide quality medical attention, but they have also been placed for your divine intervention. Thank you for all they bring of themselves and of you to minister to and serve this very faithful family. Protect them all and give them the wisdom, perseverence, and guidance they need to truly serve you in their profession. Thank you for them all. Be with BJ and the family in a very close and personal way this day as they face this surgery. Give them all the strength they are going to need. You are the sole healer in this situation, and we give you the praise and glory for what you are doing and are going to do. I pray this in your mighty name, Vicki Justice

I am leaving town again, but I will be praying and checking on ya'll while I am away. Love you all-----all ya'll! VJ Indy

I check this blog so many times a day my computer should just automatically go there by now. Today is a big day, and we are praying for good things. Love you guys!

Good Morning!

Sounds like you had a good night. That is wonderful. Thanks for recognizing the medical staff, I am sure they appreciate it. I know you are growing closer to them as they are to you. Both sides are being a wonderful ministry to each other. Nurses and RT's do not get enough thank you's, so I am sure they appreciate what you are saying. I know when I worked in ICU, there were certain famiies that you became attached to and were very special, close to your heart. I am certain you all are one of those families to those nurses. We continue to pray today for the successful outcome of the canula removal and vein repair, for no bleeding/clotting issues, improvement in renal & pulmonary function. We pray for your continued strength, love you all.

Love, Nancy

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for the many doctors, nurses, perfusionists and RTs who are taking care of BJ. I know that they all worked hard in school, spent many sleepless nights in study and passed a battery of difficult tests--thank you for their hard work and their determination. Thank you that you put people in this world who want to be in the medical profession, even though they know how hard it will be. Thank you for giving them talent and skill. We lift all of these up to you, and pray that you would bless their personal and professional lives, that you would sustain them physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Give them eyes in the back of their head Lord, so that they will be able to see everything that is happening with BJ. Give them wisdom and discernment in treating him. Be present during BJ's surgery, and bless the surgeons' hands with steadiness and skill. Please protect BJ from internal bleeding, and please heal his veins and continue to keep his numbers good. You are a good God, and I praise You for the faith You have given the Higgins family.

Hi BJ's Mom and Dad,
I have your Aunt Maralyn Lyne in our women's bible study Wednesday mornings. And Chris and Marla have had most of our teenagers in the Youth group at our church at one time or another. Maralyn shared hospital pictures of BJ with us last Wednesday. Absolutely unbelievable!
Our group wants you to know that we are praying in the power of the Holy Spirit for BJ and you as you are going through this season of your lives. Our pray is for a complete healing for BJ.
Our love to all of your family,
