I do not mean to tease, but I am sitting here listening to a new song recorded by MercyMe. A song that Bart wrote, inspired by BJ's life and death. They were in the recording studio when BJ died. Bart and I had spoken early in Beej's journey in the hospital. He ministered to me deeply that night.

God laid a song on his heart that was quickly, recorded. It is an Anthem to the chosen of Christ. It is called "Die for You" (the release date is April 2006). It is an inspired song that I believe will motivate a generation of students to follow Christ onto the mission field. The proceeds of the song will even fund a scholarship named after BJ, which will send one student a year to the mission field.

Bart, Mike, Jim, Robby, Nate, Barry, spouses and families, thank you for your prayer support, for lifting us to the Father through this difficult time, and for the way you bless our Lord through your gifts. You have been a significant blessing to our family! I found a new journal of BJ's Sunday night, and in it, he wrote of his love for your music, and ministry. You truly inspired him as well as generations of people.

I would like to share an entry BJ wrote when he was 9 years old. I've corrected his spelling, but that is it.

"I feel like I have failed with explaining your word to my unsaved friends. I never understood the true meaning of when the thief accepted Christ on his last chance and last moment of his life he made his best decision of his life. I feel like I failed to tell my friend Kenny the word of Jesus and help him understand what it means to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and give his life to him. Now Kenny's moved and I never took any opportunity that was given to me and now I regret it, it wasn't a good decision to make. I never really understood what it meant to actually accept Christ and give him everything and sometimes you have to die just to follow Christ in his steps.

I thought this up on Saturday of Disciple Now during the fourth and last session and I really felt more convicted than I ever felt in my life. Even though I'm not in the youth I still listen to the sermons and sessions the youth have. I know God can do radical things through children and I don't mean to brag but God has done radical things through me and my family. To be in Disciple Now you have to be in 6th grade. I can't wait until I'm in the 6th grade but now I'm in the 3rd grade and 9 years old.

I was leading a Disciple Now group, and BJ was with me. He drank in those experiences, and grew more than many of the youth. He was writing of dying for Christ at the age of 9! Lord Jesus, I thank You, and am in awe of how You worked in his young life!

In 2003, Beej had to do an autobiography (just found this too!). I want to share the final page with you.

In life, I already know the gist of my future and the calling of my present: to be a servant for God, to glorify God, and to reach out to others so that they may know God. Though I definitely see these callings as truly inspiring and enjoyable, further into my future is where my truest happiness will be experienced. Without giving a mere "Sunday School Answer" I will try to convey the awesomeness of the joy that is to be experienced in my future. My brightest moment, which will be beyond anything that anyone in this world can imagine, and also that will last forever, is spending eternity in heaven with my Lord.

Beej the future is now, and I am so proud of who you are in Christ! My son, you finished the race and won the prize! I love you.

Thank you so much for including these entries. God surely worked years ago in Beej's life and didn't stop! God will, I know, continue working, and to that end I will pray. The Sig. 5 is opening up a new chapter this evening, so will you pray with me for God to do a great work in the lives of these men? Again, thank you for your ministry, and I praise Jesus daily for strengthening you and allowing you to have it. Have a glorious day!

Phil

I am left speechless again. Thank you so much for sharing that this morning, once agin it has blessed me deeply. To see that even at a young age a child can have a deep pasion for God is truly amazing. I can only pray and help instill that passion for our God into my little brother. Thank you for continuing to share the life of BJ with us. For me, it has been convicting, a BIG blessing, and life challenging all at the same time.
May God keep blessing you so that you will continue to be a blessing to others.
With much love and prayers,

April C.

Brent, Thank you again for sharing yours and BJ's hearts. I'm overwhelmed at the maturity in Christ that BJ showed! David has told us how that BJ was a cool guy, that he had grown up a lot, and that we still tended to see him as the little nephew that he used to be...Sorry, BJ, but we didn't truly get to know you during those once-a-year visits, did we? We did get a glimpse, though, when visiting with him after his first trip to Peru. He was so excited and so obviously devoted to God.

I'm reminded again to treat EVERYONE with respect, love, and integrity, no matter what their age or circumstances. Often it is not easy to do, but we don't know everything that is going on in someone's heart, or how God might want to use US to make a difference in that person's life!

Thanks for the reminder to REALLY live, and to REALLY live for GOD.

Love, Jolene

BJ's understanding and dedication and obedience has me in awe. At the age of nine, he had already experienced, through the lead of his parents and the Spirit, the encompassing love for his Lord. And laid his life even then.

After reading his journal entry this morning, it's depth of the love of his Lord . . . I can only imagine . .

He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it! God is so good and will continue to complete His purpose in BJ's life even though he's in heaven. I can't wait to hear the song when it comes out. I'll be copying your blog to share in my women's SS class this Sunday as I have others. Powerful!!! How awesome to be able to trace the common thread of God's work in BJ's life from a young boy. Love to your family today from Gray,Ga.

Good morning Brent, that definately was a tease..lol...but how awesome and what an honor in Beej's memory.
Beej continues to amaze me with his depth of understanding and maturity in Christ at such a young age. God certainly had His hand upon Beej's life and had both chosen and called Him out to do mighty things. These things we are still witnessing and being blessed in such a powerful way.
To the anonymous blogger who chose not to sign his/her name to their post. We will pray for you. It's obvious that although you take great delight in running down Beej and his family you are desperate for the love of God in your life, otherwise you wouldn't continue to return to this site. We'll pray that God would convict you of the need that you have for Him in your life, that He would soften your heart and turn it towards Jesus Christ. We pray that He'll place good Christian friends in your life to help lead you along the right path.

Thank you Brent and Deanna for all that you do for the body of Christ. May God continue to bless each of you and use you both in a mighty and powerful way in spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

In His Love

I miss you family! Can't wait to hear the song. BJ has continued to minister to me...even in his death. A huge part of that is that y'all keep blogging and the stuff you put on here. Everyday, it's exactly what I need to hear! I love y'all and you're always in my heart and in my prayers.

That is truly amazing to me that he was so perceptive even at such a young age. The last few days your postings have been such a blessing and have spoke to me in great ways. Yes, that was quite the tease because now we are all going to be waiting on pins and needles to hear this new song from Mercy Me, what a great testimony to BJ's life and how awesome God will continue to use him to further his kingdom through the scholarship! I am so thrilled for you guys that you have so much support and such wonderful tributes made to BJ that will continue blessing you in his absence. I pray you all of have a great week, and know we continue every day to log on and think of you daily and pray for your strength.

To the Anonymous Blogger that keeps returning with negative comments toward BJ and his family - many people are praying for you, that you will come to know the Christ that BJ loved and served while on this earth, and is now living in Heaven with. I know you are thirsty to know this same God, as you keep returning to this site. But please, can I ask that you not say things that are hurtful to this precious family. They have lost their son, and their hearts are broken. Please do not punish them further - but Please find someone that knows God that you can talk to. HE LOVES YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Dear Brent and family,
Thank you for sharing with us today, such a personal part of BJ's life. I am touched to know that God heard the cry of his heart when he was just a little guy. We will never understand all this, this side of Heaven. But oh, what a privilege to know the God that hears our prayers and our cries. Keep encouraged! Do not let anyone put you down for sharing the faith that lives on, for the awesome way that BJ continues to reach and change lives, even in his death.
You are being prayed for today!!!
A friend that cares

Anonymous at 10:52am, I understand your skepticism. None of this talk about God and Jesus seems real to begin with, does it? You don't see Him and you don't know much about Him. You see all this as foolishness. You are just feeling empty and hurt. Something about beej has you curious enough to read all these posts. Take a few more minutes and surf over to this site: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=50&chapter=1&version=31 Read the story and ask yourself if you really want to understand. If you do, then finish the book. Walk into this stuff with a healthy skepticism, but take the walk. You deserve the chance to show us how wrong we are. But you need to know the story.

Thank you so much for sharing his journal entries with us....again. I love them and treasure each word. God was working in your son from the start...just as He did with His own Son. How awesome!! And how amazing and inspiring for the younger children to see the writing of a 9 year old...convicted, saddened, wise, and loving, wanting to give all for His Lord and Savior!!

May God continue to bless you and keep you and continue to keep these tiny treasures of BJ hidden until His timing is perfect and then bless you with them. What a treasure chest of writings and feelings from a man of God and your son whom God blessed you with. You did a FANTASTIC job shining in the Light of Jesus for your son to see and pursue! God bless you all!

I know that you are searching for something....because you came to this site. God is the answer to your search...He is the Answer to everything. All you have to do is reach out and accept Him. He is waiting with open arms. And listening to MercyMe would be a very powerful gift in your life!! Putting people down, especially in the midst of such heartbreak and anquish is from the devil...and we don't accept the devil's work here!!! You must be really young to have said such things. But we love you...whoever you are...and are praying for your eyes to be opened, your ears to hear, and your heart to accept the love of Jesus...

God bless you!

Buy this book, read it, follow it....sound familiar? Yes, kids....The Bible!!!! There was a fellow named Jim Jones who did a similar thing. Just remember, don't drink the Kool-Aid. As a student of science, it is difficult to look at 'the truth' and see it as believable. There is a strong scientific explanation for everything which happens. And until someone can prove otherwise, I'll take fact over supposition.

It's funny how God works. We see time after time of BJ's message of dying for Christ. But to see it happen and to read his journal entries from the tender age of 9 is a leading of God. It reminds me of the Bible and how the disciples wrote their accounts with Jesus..and now we see BJ's..Glory Be to God!!This is truly a blessing ..WOrld Wide..and forever

I know there are a lot of people who read this website and I would just like to ask those of you who read this to say a prayer for my husband, mark, and i. one of our best friends accepted Christ and became a christian yesterday at church and now, it's up to us to minister to and disciple her. if you could remeber to pray for us, we'd appreciate it. we need God to provide opportunities for Emily to get into the word and learn what it is really all about to be a christian and live for God. mark and i can't do it alone. and all we need is HIM. thanks so much.

anonymous, Jim Jones kept his people from the truth. he asked them to check their brains at the door, trust what others said and blindly follow him. you are invited to use your own brain, trust only what you discover in your own inquiry and let your path be enlightened. but you need to read the story yourself and make your own judgement. i challenge you to make a fully informed conclusion by examining the story as it is written.

Dearest Higgins family,

I can't tell you how much I love you. Thank you for sharing your heart and please don't stop.

Your son was about my age (I'm 15), and he got it so much more than I. My prayer is that I will have the understanding that Beej had and his fire for God, and his desire to die every day to myself.

Your son has just reinforced my desire to go on the missions field and take everything the world has to throw at me, holding up Jesus as my shield. Thank you so very much for sharing his diary entries. Thank you so much for sharing your pain. Thank you so much for allowing us to pray for you. Your humility is so beautiful to behold.
Even though you don't know me, I love you.
