This morning BJ's oxygen level dropped from the 80s to the low 60s. His breathing tube was leaking, so this morning an ear/nose/throat specialist performed surgery on BJ to fix it. The surgery went smoothly, and his oxygen levels are up to the low 70s. The doctors have also added a tube into his abdomen to relieve the pressure that has been building up there. We pray that these measures will increase his oxygen level once more.

A few minor things- BJ is developing bed sores, as he's now been in the hospital in the same position for 9 days. His bottom lip is also swelling profusely. Though these concerns are not critical in the scope of everything, we appreciate your prayers over the little things as well.

Just to clear up the zodiac sign that was on BJ's profile- that was an automatic function of this blog which we did not arrange. We have since learned how to correct it, and now it is gone. :)

To those wishing to donate blood in BJ's name- THANK YOU! We are trying to find out from the staff here what we have to do in order to make this process work, so we will keep you posted.

I and my family continue to be touched and speechless by the vast amount of prayers going up for BJ all over the world. Praise God for the unity of His children, to Him be the glory in this and ALL things!!!

We too learned of your crisis through Mercy Me. My wife and I along with our many friends and family, church members etc, will add B.J. to our prayer lists. I know that Jesus has the power to restore health if that is His wish and through prayer He will see that B.J. is loved and cared for a great deal. Know that we will be praying also for you, the family, that God will strengthen you and hold you close to His heart through this time.
God Bless.

WE want the Higgins family to know that the Awe Star family are praying for them. Even today BJ teammates have created prayforbj.com t-shirts to get the body of Christ to join together for prayer. BJ has the annointing of God upon him and God will use this experience to further His name and enlarge His kingdom. BJ is already known as man among men, the country of Peru has felt the impact of his life and are daily calling and asking for an update. Thanks for putting up this website!

I heard about BJ from MercyMe. I know the emotional and physical exhaustion you are going thru. My mother battled brain cancer for 4 years, and it is very hard. Remember as guilty as it may make you feel, be sure to take care of yourselves...physically, mentally and most importantly spiritually. When BJ comes around and the Lord heals him from this horrible infection, He will see your strength that only God can give you! I know that the Lord has BIG plans for BJ and prayers are already going out from Texas. Stay strong b/c I believe he is a warrior.

Brent, Deanna, Lauren and Whitney,

My heart goes out to you all. I can't imagine how hard this must be for you all. Every time I look at Devin, I think of BJ and how you must be feeling. He’s been getting more “extra” hugs than he would like lately. God is good and I know you are in his hands as is BJ. We have many out here in southern California praying for BJ, and for all of you also. It's been amazing to see how often, unprompted, Marla's girls and Devin have been praying for him. I pray for God's strength, encouragement and peace as you walk through this with BJ.

I'm so glad we had the opportunity to spend some time with BJ last summer. What an amazing man of God. His faith is an inspiration to us all. While he's run a good race, and certainly deserves the prize, I don't think his work is done yet. It seems like every setback is followed by a move forward. Whatever God has planned for BJ, I have complete faith that it will be good. BJ, when you read this, thank you for your example.

I was reading through the posts here from all over the country and the world, and was moved to tears. It's overwhelming to see so many come together in prayer. I just kept thinking that I couldn't wait until BJ could read them. What an amazing God, that even as BJ is lying immobilized in a hospital bed, he's being used to bring God glory. It's a good reminder that it's not what we do, but what God does through us.

We love you so much, and wish we could be there with you.

Higgins Family,

I was ecstatic when Pastor Larry sent us today's update, which included this wonderful blog.

Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We find your faith to be an inspiration, and a reminder of the true love God has for us all.

It amazes me how BJ went as a missionary to bring God's message to the people of Peru, but returns home to bring the message to people throughout the world.

May God's love continue to shine on us all, may his loving hands bring support and comfort to your family.

I prayed the instant I heard about it, friends and loved ones in my circle of concerns and pray chains are calling out to Jesus to bring healing and wellness to BJ. I included him in all my prayer lists, we will continue to include him in our daily prayers until he is healed and is sent home safe and well. The Lord hears those who speak to Him. We sing out to you with tears in our eyes that this young man will be healed.

Please know you are in my family's prayers. My daughter, Ashley, knows B.J. from the '04 Peru trip, so we feel close to your situation. My son, Nathan, gives blood on a regular basis, so we will be watching for news on how we might be able to contribute blood to B.J.'s account.

We will especially be praying right now for B.J.'s sores to heal, for the swelling to go down in his lips and for continued wisdom beyond human capacity for the doctors to be able to properly care for B.J. We are also praying for an extra measure of strength and grace for your family.

Praise the Lord for daily victories that encourage and remind that He is surely in control.

Thank you so much for sharing your updates so that many of us can share in intercessory prayer.

As I was reading through the updates GOD said to me "remember all the people you have taken care of and thought that they would not get better? Remember all the miracles you have seen?" I wanted to share with you that YES, I have seen medical miracles and have been a part of them. Also, it is a miracle to have your loved one BJ bring the body of Christ together in this venue.

To BJ and his family,
I too found the prayer request today in my e-mail from Mercy Me for BJ. My heart was touched in such a powerful way...and I will tell you why.
Last year my husband and I took a trip to Italy to celebrate 25 years of marriage, 4 wonderful sons, and an amazing life God has given us. Seven days into the trip I became very ill, and was diagnosed with pneumonia. It was a tough time, with many medications,
touch and go. Yet, over and over again God showed us how he was taking care of me. With doctors that were believers, people who were angels that came out of nowhere(heaven), even an angel flight attendant in Germany, that magically whisked us through customs,(she had just came back from a missions trip to China!);
each one give us a hand, love or some hope. To this day, my recovery is going well.It has been over a year and I am just getting off of all my meds, and over and over again I realize what a miracle the Lord did in my life AND in the lives of my family.
An incredible, character building adventure? Well, I have had many people tell me that our words (my husband, boys and I), our stories, have touched them in such a powerful way to bless the name of Jesus.
Just remember this, family:
HE sees YOU, He knows YOU, He loves YOU....and when your heart is breaking allow HIM hold you in his arms. Choose to believe when you become weary that HIS strength
is enough for you. Don't try to do more or be more that you are...in BJ's weakness, in your weakness, God is made strong.
My heart goes out to you.
And when BJ is better, bring him to our little beach town (San Clemente, CA) and we will teach him to surf!!
God Bless You,
Karen Vesely

I heard about this through MercyMe. My prayers are with you. A couple of years ago my 39year old husband became very ill for an unknown reason. One trip to the ER ended up being 8 months in the hopital with his kidney's completely failed, liver failure, his lung collapsed - at one time he died and I ran to get help to resucitate him - he spent many months in a coma on life support. I prayed and prayed for him. So many prayed for him. All the doctors had no hope for him, he was given only days to live, at one time, while I had our 3&4 year old in my lap, they asked for me to consent to an autopsy, they actually suggested I was in denial and being unrealistic. What I held on to was my faith in what the bible sais and the power of prayer. No matter what the doctors told me - I had faith that he was going to come through and use his testimony to reach others. All in all it has been over 2 years of illness & recovery. He is doing very well and is completely healed. His kidneys, liver & lungs are 100% functioning and he is able to get around by himself and resume to the life he took a break from. So many ask how we hung in there, but when you have God on your side - anything is possible. Remember - it is all in his time. He loves you, he knows you and he will always hear you. I will be praying for you. Deanna Sinclair, Argyle, TX

Psalm 18:1-6

1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.
6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.

I want to let the Higgins family know that they have one more prayer to count on for their son. I'm going to make an announcement in my church tonight so that you and your family know that there are people out here who although may not know him and his family, love the lord with all there hearts therefore love him and his family and will keep praying for him. I know about bj from one of my teachers-Mr. Renfroe at JWC in High Point. Just remember not to give up, God isn't and I dnt think BJ is. Que dios te bendiga-May God bless You.

Inspiration can be a powerful thing, it can keep you going when all around you cries out "quit" It is even more powerful than motivation, as motivation gives you the basic reasons to keep going, it tells you why you want to do what you do, because motivation is based on goals.
