Things are worse this morning. Bj's white blood cell count is significantly up, which means infection. His x-ray on the left side looks worse, either fluid or infection has invaded. The "bedsore" could be from internal bleeding and could go much deeper, which also could be the source of infection. The plan is to take him off the CVVH, which hepronizes him, and put another chest tube in to drain fluid from lung and then a surgeon will treat the wound to get rid of bacteria.

Friends, we know you're praying. Lord, we ask for mercy once again. We don't know what to do, but our eyes are on You.

I am a nurse at St. Vincent in the NICU and heard about this site through one of your RTs. I've been checking this website daily since then and have responded a couple times. I just wanted you to know that even though I have never met your family, I love you all so much! BJ's struggles will not be in vain. It amazes me that God can give us such a heart and a burden for fellow Christians we've never even met. I've checked the site every day to here about BJ's condition. The news must be discouraging, but take heart, God is with you and will carry you when you're too weak to go on. Will continue to pray. God bless.

We pray for BJ and his family. Continue to provide comfort during this difficult time.

I often find myself at a loss of words when the news is not good. I want to say something that can provide comfort and encouragement but the words escape me. I find myself trying to understand why this is happening to a family as faithful as the Higgins. My heart is hurting for this family. I know that Your plan is always perfect even though it is not always "easy" or the road we would choose. I thank you for reminding me that all things are used for Your glory. Please help us all to rest and be comforted in this knowledge. BJ and his family have been such a beautiful example of this. As I read the comments from all of our other sisters and brothers in Christ, the Holy Spirit remimded me that Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days being tempted of the devil. Satan really attacked at the time when Jesus was most vunerable in the body, yet was most spiritually strong. He had been communing with our Father, just as BJ spent the summer communing and witnessing about our Father's grace and mercy as well as His great Love. Jesus used the Sword of Truth which is the Word of God to defeat Satan, and just as Satan left him for a time so I believe that the same can happen for you. Remember that NO weapon formed against you shall be able to prosper. Use the word, speak the word-don't just think it, but use it as the weapon of our warfare that it is. Believe with all of your heart that God is faithful to perform his word and then find every healing scripture that you can think of and speak them over BJ.

We love you and will continue to hold you up before the throne of grace. As so many have stated we are standing in the gap for you.

Thank you for BJ. Thank you for his enthusiasm for you. Thank you for making him so wonderfully.
Dear God the Healer,
please heal BJ. Zap the infection to make it go away, and clear up his lung.
Dear God our Guide, please help the doctors to perform whatever procedure he needs with the best of skill, using all of their resources, both intellectual and physical.
Dear God the comforter, please hold Deanna, Brent, Lauren and Whitney close in your arms and encourage them today. Give them the peace that only You can give.

Father God as BJ faces another struggle there are NO surprises with you. I pray you even now touch BJ's body and REMOVE the infection and bring his white cell count back to normal. I know the Body of Christ pray in unity on this thus satan you have NO choice. Come away from BJ and take your evil hands off him. I also pray for the doctors and nurses and ALL who tend to BJ to be given supernatural wisdom today that they may recognize it is the God of Abraham, the Creator of all things that is at work in BJ's room. Please Lord God give Brent, Deanna, Lauren and Whitney peace and calmness only you can bring. Oh Lord help them not to be discouraged. Give them all the strength they need today and may they draw power and peace from the hundreds of us who love them and stand with them. For we pray BELIEVING in JESUS NAME !!

Just as so many, I too have been touched and inspired by this whole situation. God works in mysterious and wonderful ways!

I came to your site through the MercyMe website. I just wanted to contact them to ask permission to use their music in our school video, and before I knew it I was reading your blogs. The more I read, the more I cried and prayed. I'm impressed by your faith and trust in our Lord and the work He is doing in the lives of all who have come in contact with you or, like me, have become a regular of your updates.

You mentioned how it would be 40 days today and I immediately thought of Jesus' 40 days in the desert. But, at the end he was victorious and angels took care of him!

"...and he was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him." Mark 1:13

I noticed today that you have not posted an update since yesterday morning. My prayer for you:
"For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
