We're still walking in the desert metaphorically speaking...no sign of "rain." Well, that's not true, there have been "traces of rain" (not your old cd's bart), but we need a gullywasher! (BJ, when you are well enough to read this...please forgive me.)
His numbers are good tonight, his ventilator pressure has been turned down a bit, and his Nitric oxide pump is being reduced (opens the alveoli in the lungs). All good signs! Lord we lift up Your Name in Praise for this!!!

I want you to know that when you leave comments for the medical staff, many of them are reading them, as we are told they check the website.

As you pray for the team here, I want to give you the doctors names so you can put a name in your prayer. The Intensivists are Doctors Chaten, Metz, Ruppel, Sichting, and Williams. The Infectious Disease doctor is Belcher. They are a stellar team, and we greatly appreciate them!

Have a great night!

I just logged on to check on BJ one more time before bed. Great timing! Sweet prayers were lifted for BJ at our C-Group tonight and you have more people praying for all of you. The ripple effect of BJ's love for the Lord and witness grows ever wider. Praise God! We are praying specifically for the kidneys to kick in tonight.

Lord Jesus, We continue to lift BJ before your throne of grace and ask that tonight would be the night that his kidneys begin functioning the way you designed. Help us to wait patiently for you to work trusting that your timing is perfect and you have a reason for the delay. Be glorified, Lord, be glorified. Amen

Hello there! just wanted to let you know i am still ferverently praying for Bj, the medical staff, and for you guys.

I had an idea strike me today. its only a suggestion, and i wont be offended if you dont want to use it. Do you remembere those wristbands like LiveStrong and Share Hope and things people bought to support stuff? well there are sites where you can make your own, whether to support a cause (and help earn money for it) or to remember somthing. The site I know of is www.reminderband.com, but there are probably more if you google it.
again, its only an idea, i wont be offended if you dont want to do it. :)

Anyway, just thought i might toss that in the air, and let you know that i am definately still praying!!

Dear Deanna:

What a small world. We have a mutual friend (Tim Deckard) who told me about your son. I worked with you at TCA. This is Gina Rice. My husband and I are also missionaries in which we have been leading a group to Montana for the last 5 years. We are actually starting a mission society. What a wonderful thing your son is involved in. I know that mission trips change your lives forever. I have put your son on the prayer list at my work(Advent Lutheran preschool) and will be adding him to my church list as well (Carmel Lutheran Church.
Yours In Christ,

Just wanted to say goodnight and that we love you.

Beej, forgive us, but we are praying for the "gullywasher" too! I know you'd just be mortified to know that this was a general concern on a blog site that thousands are reading, but I guess it shows how much we love you!

Praying for the "gullywasher" and a boring night.

Hugs and kisses to you all.

BJ & family,

We have put you on our church prayer list and Raysha (Awestar missionary) passed out information on BJ's website, t-shirts, and birthday card requests. A couple of cards are already on the way and Raysha has 2 t-shirts on the way to her. I'm sure they will be an amazing testimony at school given the state we live in. We just want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. And yes, it sounds like BJ has an amazing medical staff, not to mention an Awesome God. Our thoughts are with you daily even in our busy times with work and school. God is truly blessing you and the others that are touched by this.

Thank you, Everlasting Father, for all You're doing in BJ's life! Thank You so much for doing what seemed so impossible just a short time ago. . .no ECMO, good numbers, etc., etc.! God, we don't want to take any of this for granted in any way. If each one of us had medical training, we'd probably understand the magnitude of Your astounding work even more than we do right now. We'd also understand more clearly the areas of real need in BJ's situation.

Thank you, Lord, for placing him in just the right hospital at just the right time. Thank you for all the doctors, nurses, therapists, and attendants of all kinds who have put in extra time, effort, knowledge, concern, and prayer on BJ's behalf. Thank you that their work and your peace has caused the Higgins family to feel so confident in the quality of their son and brother's care.

Lord God, we just ask you to touch the medical staff's hearts and minds and hands and feet now and in the days to come. Bless their families, God, who often must give them up so that they can serve in this special way. Bless their continued learning and study, God--and if there's something new they need to find out in ordert to better help BJ, then please bring it to light promptly. Strengthen them inside and outside, Lord, and thank you for their dedication to their task and to all their patients.

God, today we remember Jayden's family whose hearts are broken before You. We thank You for the peace and closure that we trust they are experiencing after his service and time shared with family and friends. Please, God, give them renewed hope and trust as they face the days ahead. Fill their empty arms and hearts with your love, and surround them, like BJ, with people who care.

Thank you again, gracious God, for fellowship in the Spirit. Thank you for Brent and Deanna and Lauren and Whitney. I pray that you will give them wisdom to navigate "normal" life during a very abnormal time. I pray that you will lift them up during those moments when they feel down and discouraged, and that you will continue giving them all sorts of little grace-gifts that bring such encouragement--as well as those bigger ones (RAIN, God!)that show Your mighty power.

Tonight, give each one very, very peaceful rest. You tell us in Your Word that you give to your beloved even in their sleep--please give healing, peace, and comfort to BJ as he sleeps. Allow his mighty spirit to grow even stronger in You even during this time of bodily weakness. Thank you again for all that You're doing. We love You, God, and we're grateful to pray

in Your name,

AMEN

The Nelson family continues to lift up the Higgins in this season of suffering. We rejoice in the most obvious work that God is doing in healing B.J. B.J. is so obviously a mighty warrior for the kingdom. We will be at the hospital ourselves next weekend with our own little mighty warrior, Josiah. As parents we know your pain, and yet as believers, we resonate with your faith and the grace being poured out through this trial. To God be the glory....
I hope to be able to stop by and hug you both next weekend. We are constantly praying along with a mighy army of prayer warriors for complete and total divine healing for BJ.

Hey guys I checked out Melinda's idea. For the wristbands you can choose from about 20 or so colors( I would suggest pink to match the shirts--but dont get light pink because that will interfere with the breast cancer awareness ones) Also you have to buy 20 at a time(at that website) They are 2.50 a piece but the more you buy the cheaper they are. To get them down to like a 1.25 or 1.00 you have to buy 500 or 1000. They take about two weeks to make and deliver. I think it is a neat idea! Just thought I would save you guys the time doing the research

Man I really miss you guys! you know God used BJ to encourage me this summer, and God also used him to tell me that He wanted me to go to Germany next semester. So I will be going to Germany next summer for 5 weeks with Awestar! I am soo excited. When I left Highland Lakes the last thing BJ said to me was "I look forward to seeing you at briefing, unless you come to Highland Lakes for the other 5 weeks of your summer, either way I will see you next summer!" He is so strong in the Lord. I learned a lot from him, and I loved listening to his stories when He got back from Peru, especially what God taught Him. You know sometimes God has to teach me the same lesson a few times before it sticks--but BJ applys it immediately and changes his lifestyle if he needs too. He is an awesome teenager. To bad he has to spend his B-day in the hospital, but he is furthering God's kingdom through his suffering--so I know he would agree with me that it is worth it. Well I love and miss you Breeeennt! :) Deanna, Lauren, Whitney and especially BJ!!! Love Always --n-- CHRIST Karen KareBear
P.S. Sorry I haven't commented in awhile--I am daily praying for him, y'all and the medical staff--I check his website twice a day if not more! Love Y'all! :)

I read BJ's last journal entry (with the excerps from John Piper's Don't Waste your Life) to over 30 women and teenage girls in my SS class at FBC Gray, Ga. today. I haven't seen the Holy Spirit impact our group like that in a long time. PTL!!! Thanks BJ for shining the light of Jesus so brightly that it touched us all the way down south! Being an Australian I don't understand the term "gullywasher" but I will assume that it has to do with kidney function or lack of it.
Lord we come to You again with praises on our lips for You and thankful hearts. We thank You for all that You have done in BJ's life and his body, for all that You have done in and through the tremendous team of staff members who are caring for BJ and for all that You have done and continue to do to all those who come and view this blog site, both believers and the lost. We thank You Lord that through Your Holy Spirit our lives and the lives of thousands more have been changed and are continuing to change. We give You all the praise all the honor and all the glory.
Lord I ask that You would continue to give the staff wisdom and direction as they make decissions concerning BJ's treatment, that You would give them strength, peace and comfort. Lord that You would bless them for their love and care of BJ.
Lord we ask that You would continue to place Your divine healing hand on BJ, on his kidney's Lord and as You spoke the world into existance we ask that You would speak his kidneys to function, just as You designed them to. Lord continue to give the Higgin's family rest, peace, comfort and strength, afford for them Lord to have those quiet moments with You, to refresh and refill their spirits. All these things we ask in the name of Your precious Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ... Amen and Amen

May the Lord give each of you sweet sleep tonight. May you wake feeling refreshed and renewed.

I pray for wisdom and direction as well as strength for all the doctors and nurses caring for your precious son. When our son was in ICU all those months, the medical staff became an extention of our family. 10 years later when we run into them, they still ask "how's little Danny?" I have a hard time remembering the name of someone I just met 10 min ago let alone 10 years later. That's how committed they were. God always puts just the right people in our paths. Thank you medical staff for caring and sharing of yourselves with this wonderful family...it is such a blessing. May you each be blessed.

Thank you for your faithfulness, Father, God. We are looking forward to seeing your manifested presents in bjs body as you continue to touch and heal him. Thank you Lord that as bj lies there You can still minister to his mind and to the depths of his soul. Thank you for an overflow of your spirit in bj's life, that he has become a distribution point for your loving care, extending to friends and family as we choose to follow this victory in Christ. Thank you for your Word that strenghthens us daily, thank you that we can fight the good fight of faith as You accomplish what You have set out to do redemption, reconcilliation and renewal of our minds and bodies, through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are truly blessed to partner in prayer for brothers and sisters in Christ. Dear Father,
Thank You for every nurse that is caring for BJ. I know it is a tough job - emotionally and physically. Hold them up, give them strength, give them great wisdom, keep them sharp, given them relief when they need a break, given them courage, and most of all, I pray that they see YOU through his life and the lives of his family. Do a work in their lives spiritually - for those that have a relationship with you, build their faith even stronger. For those that are seeking, give them courage to step up and say "I want to know the Jesus BJ lives for."
I thank you for each one of them. Make this a good week, an encouraging week for them!!
In your name! Amen.

Dear Higgins Family,

Thank you for the updates. We have been so blessed by your willingess to share your journey. What an amazing testimony of faith. I know that BJ is feeling blessed to be able to serve our Lord in a way he could not have envisioned. I am amazed at how God prepared him to be a soldier in illness. It is so easy to talk about letting God use us however he desires. But when God provides the opportunity many time we do not follow through. Your whole family has been an example of following through with God's plan for our lives. I thank you and give praise to God for the opportunity to witness this part of BJ's life. I am changed forever.

I also continue to pray for all of those who are caring for BJ. I thank God for them and pray that God continues to bless them with knowledge, compassion, and strength to be his earthly helpers!

Love,
