Beej is resting on his tummy again. He is off of the Cvvh machine. Now is the time for his kidneys to begin to work as he is less swollen. If he doesn't begin on his own, they will try to induce function with a drug. His SAT's continue to be in the 90's, and only dipped briefly during the turning of his body. Ventilator settings are still below what they had been. The morning x-ray was inconclusive as to whether or not the air pockets are gone. The Dr. said they are either still present or he has more blood collecting around the left side. All in all, he looks better.

Please continue to pray for kidney function, for the air pockets or blood to resolve, and for continued healing.

We are still awaiting word from the CDC on what his infection might be due to.

Thank you for including BJ in your prayer times at home, in the car, at church and through the watches of the night. Thanks for wearing your shirts and sharing the love of Jesus when asked about what "prayforbj" means.

You have blessed us,

BJ's dad

I will echo others and say, "No, YOU have blessed us." We are so grateful that you include us in this ministry of pouring out prayers and wearing T-shirts and blogging (a new experience for me!) and sharing in fellowship. . .think of all the angels gathered around BJ in that hospital room! I know God is not challenged at all by this. We have seen Him do so many miracles--and we will give Him all the glory regardless. . .go, God! and (literally), go, BJ!

PS I am unsure if you are able to get your own church's sermon via a website, but just in case you don't or you would like another really good sermon from this morning...our pastor, Dr. James MacDonald, at Harvest Bible Church in IL is teaching on revival. :) The series started today & is called "Downpour", "He will come to us like the rain". Hosea 6

You can just sit & listen to it in the room off your laptop (on-line or downloaded)! Here is the info (www.harvestbible.org), and if God leads...enjoy.

Continuing to pray for you and your family, BJ. I am a freshman in college and looking for a church home in Stillwater. The church I visited today had a great small group setting, we talked about people of faith being strengthened through trial. Certainly you were the first people on my mind. I got to share BJ's story. Be assured they, too are praying for you.

Dear Father,
The works of Your hands are amazing--our bodies are such complicated creations that we, with all of our scientific and medical know-how, still can't understand all of its many functions and parts. You, however, know all things, and You created BJ. Please place Your hands on his kidneys and lungs and teach them again how to work. We praise You for how far you have brought him and his family, and we know Your presence will sustain them.

Heavenly Father,
I ask you to touch BJ's kidneys so they start functioning on their own. Lord I pray that he would not have to depend on machines or medicine to make them work....just your mighty touch.
I pray also Father that You would intervene with the issue in his lungs...whatever the problem is. You know what it is and how it needs to be resolved. Father we have so very much to be thankful for in BJ's recovery and the sustaining of his family and I do praise You for each step of the way. I ask you to continue to provide peace and encouragement for Brent, Deanna, Lauren and Whitney and the rest of the family also. Lord I pray that when BJ comes through this he will be able to share his wonderful testimony with many, many people and I pray that you will allow him to see how his faith has challenged many of us to look long and hard at our commitment to You. Lord please use this time to encourage each person that has joined this "group of bloggers" to take a step of faith in sharing the Gospel with those around us. I just believe that BJ would take great joy in knowing that many of us were starting to do what he loves to do.....share the love of Christ with the lost.
I give you my praise and my thanks for what you are doing.
In the name of Christ,
Amen.

God is so amazing!! He wants us to totally surrender our children and their lives to Him and then, He works through many amazing ways in their lives. Yes, we all agree, you could have done without this whole experience, and God could have done a work in BJ's and the family's life in another way . . . He has already been doing amazing things through His life over the past few years of sharing His faith so fervently. Yet, He is using this, this fungus/bacteria that has taken over BJ's body, to do a work, to bring amazing glory to Himself. And I can only imagine that someday, as BJ is preaching to crowds of people (or even to a few people clustered on a street corner in some part of the world, wherever God leads him,) that He will be telling them how "sin can take a hold on their lives, and work through them like a horrible fungus" . . . and he will be able to tell them what God did in His body. . . and what He can do in their hearts (souls) . . . and people WILL listen to the amazing story he has to share! HE will use this for HIS glory. It has been a dark month, and it's not over yet, we praise God for the improvements, what an encouragement!! . . . but we KNOW who is holding BJ through this whole experience . . . and we know that BJ will bring hundreds to Christ through this . . .indeed, He already is and he doesn't even know it yet!! I have been praying specifically that as he lies there, in a "sleep state" that God and His angels are ministering to Him. We have yet to hear "his side of the story!!"
I stand, I stand in awe of YOU! Holy God, to whom all praise is due, I stand in awe of YOU!!!"
Thank you family for being vulnerable to all of us strangers . . . for sharing the events as they take place, for allowing your emotions to show through. It's often easier to just hide away as a family when we face something so difficult, yet, as you share, and allow all of us to participate by praying, by encouraging, by witnessing through what God is doing . . . that is what builds our faith, increases your strength, and together, gives us all a bond as brothers and sisters in Christ. We will never all meet this side of Heaven . . . but wow! it makes us all want to "Be There!!" someday!!
May God's presence fill your hearts on this beautiful Lord's Day!!
From a mom who has reached out to other's on behalf of an ill child . . . and will never be the same! God's people are THE BEST!!!

I have to agree with everyone else, you have blessed us immensely. I know personally my walk with the Lord has grown stronger, through prayer. The Lord has blessed so many of us, in so many ways and we thank Him for it. I continue to pray for BJ and you, his family. May the Lord continue to move each one of us and may His divine healing hand remain on BJ until complete healing and restoration has been accomplished. May He continue to give you strength, peace and comfort.

Brent and Deanna,
I just walked in and we headed straight for the "Blog"! It's great to here the good news on B.J.We are all still praying for his continued improving health! A funny thing happened this afternoon. After Church we had to go to a "reception." My sister was married a month or so ago, in Florida, where she lives. I had sent her the information on B.J., along with updates and the website. As soon as we pulled up, one of the first things from her mouth, was that as soon as she got to her hotel room, here in Indianapolis, she checked her emails and had received an email from a friend of hers about a "B.J. Higgins" and a "PRAYFORBJ.COM" website! again, she lives near Lake Okeechobee Florida......The "WORD" is out! I hope you all are having another "Semi-Boring Day"
Continued Prayer....Your Friend, Matt L.
P.S. Brent! Thanks a lot for the Pink comment....I got a good amount of "feedback" at church....I have added a number of people to my own personal pink prayer list.

Dear Higgins Family,

We continue to pray. Our 9 year old, Thomas is especially fond of BJ and is not just praying for him, but encouraging his classmates, as well. BJ spent a great deal of time two years ago and taught Thomas the coreography for the drama. Anyhow, Thomas' first order of business is usually to hit this web site and check on BJ.

When it comes to suffering I do not pretend to understand it. All I know is that as believers it is something we may be asked to endure, but thankfully not alone. I was told when I was in Intensive Care and on a Vent that Paula had many that would stand by her while I was unconscious. How thankful and grateful I was that Paula was not alone during that dark time in our lives. I do feel called to minister, inturn, to others that face similar trials and wait on God's leading for full time ministry. I still today have flash backs to those days in ICU. All that is to say Paula and I have heavy hearts along with you. But be of good cheer. If an unworthy sinner like me saved by grace, was delivered from my bout with Septic Shock and ARDS, then I have NO doubt at all that BJ will also be delivered back to you made whole. He will be sharing his testimony with untold numbers who will marvel at the moving of God in his life and thus come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. So be of good courage dear family. The story of BJ Higgins is just in the early chapters. I can't wait to see what God has in mind for him! Still prayin for those Kidneys to kick in and the lungs to function without the vent. We love you but, gosh......bet you know that by now :-) Phil & Paula

Higgins,
Grandma got her pink shirt today. This is the first T-Shirt I have ever known her to own. She wants you to know that she misses talking to "the little woman with the black hair" during worship service. She never has been good at names. Just to let you know if you didn't, See You At The Pole is this Wednesday at area schools across the nation, the world even. I will make known BJ at Mooresville for those who didnt already know. Those who do have a genuine caring for him. He is such an inspiration. I will keep you all in my prayers and will pray specifically for BJ's kideys to function. I'm still prayin in pink. love you all

Wow, praise the Lord! I've been gone on a weekend retreat (on which God moved mightily, btw) and it's so wonderful to come back and see a good report.

Dear Lord, we thank Your for Your continued healing of BJ. You have proved Yourself to be faithful time and time again. Right now we just come to You and ask You to be healing his kidneys. We've seen You do great things many times in the past month, and we now ask with confidence, knowing that You will be completely in controll of it. We pray now for Beej's family. Give them rest and strength for what ever may lie in the way ahead. Thanks for all the peace and joy You have given them already. You are truly and awesome God.
In Jesus name,
Amen

kidneys are special to me. I gave one to my brother in law (who suffered with poly-cystic kidney disease). Jesus blessed us with recovery (we're both going strong) and I believe that he will touch BJ and heal his kidneys as well.

I have to admit that before coming to this blog my faith was of the Sunday Christian variety. Your faith has moved me and I feel like the woman who believed she would be healed by touching the hem of Christ's cloak. Thank you for this gift.

So good to check in and find that BJ is doing much better. We pray that those kidneys get busy real soon. BJ has gone through so much and we do see a lite at the end of the tunnel. We will continue to pray for a bigger step forward tomorrow than today. Each new miracle God gives BJ, we are all so grateful. Please get some well deserved rest tonight and we'll be checking in first thing in the morning for the update! Please praise all the staff for those of us who have been praying for their wisdom and guidance from the Lord. We thank them for their dedication to all those that are ill in the hospital there. Take care and God Bless you,

Hi Whitney & family,
I am so sorry...Mike & I have been out of town for 2 1/2 wks., I just heard Ann's message tonite, so had no idea what you're going thru. Mike just had surgery for prostate cancer, PRAISE GOD the cancer was contained within the prostate which has been removed, so he is on the road to recovery. Our faith & prayers of our family & loved ones sustained us, and I wish the same for you. Sounds like you have an awesome prayer chain going, and we are on board as of now. God's hand will lead you through. John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid".
