There have been few significant changes in the course of the day...and that is not a bad thing! He continues to fight a fever, his heart rate is elevated, but his SATs remain in the mid 80's as they reduce pump oxygen percentages and pressure. We are still waiting for those kidneys to kick in.

Tomorrow he will have his neck canula removed. Tuesday, he will likely have surgery on his left leg vein which is host to another canula. This vein is damaged from the invasion of plastic. The surgeon told me there was a 50% chance of this working. If is doesn't we are looking at real circulation issues for that leg.

Please pray against his fever, that his heart rate will come down and for the surgeons as they remove canulas and repair veins.

The medical staff have been outstanding, and we are so thankful that this is where the Lord directed us. I can't remember if I shared this before or not, but Beej would be gone if we had gone to any other hospital in this area, as none of them do ECMO on anyone but babies. God is Sovereign and He knows all. We bow down before Him as He continues to work miracles in room 2001.

with deepest gratitude,

Beej's dad

To all of the Higgins Family,

Praise God as He gets you all through this time. We lifted up BJ in prayer during our church service this morning and we will continue to do so as he continues his fight. One day at a time, BJ. Strength, comfort and peace to granted unto BJ, oh Lord, and unto his family as they await patiently for healing to continue. Guide the medical staff in their decisions to bring BJ's body closer to healing with all that they do. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen

Dear Higgins Family,
I hope you are holding up as this must be terribly hard on you. Marla was talking to us at our church about how tough this is but that God has the whole world in his hand's and that he loves us. I just hope that He can protect BJ and help his fever go away and to bring his heart rate down. I hope that God can help BJ's leg and to watch over the surgeons helping BJ. I know BJ can get through this and that he will come out with an amazing testimony of how God saved him. I can only wait for him to tell his tale to the world. I continue to pray for BJ and everyone in your family.
You're in my heart,
Lauren

Hi all,

Just checking in for another update. Will definitely pray for all those things you mentioned, Brent. It is no surprise his kidneys are struggling, so many meds and perfusion problems. Will pray hard for kidney function to return. I am sure you both realize what impact BJ has had on people and how he is still impacting everyone who hears about him. My youngest, Kim, has really been putting a lot together and yesterday when she knew how critical things were, she kept speaking to me about the impact he was having on the medical staff at ST. V's and maybe, in her mind, that is why God is allowing this.
She was hoping that those who didn't know Christ could see Him working through BJ and your family.
Pretty good for a 10 year old. Thank you for your witnessing, for your son & daughters, who are all so positive role models for the younger kids. You are truly a very special family and we are so blessed to have met you. Love you all.

Love, Nancy

Good to hear that encouraging signs are taking place. We are so relieved to hear you say that St. Vincent Children's Hospital is the best place for BJ. We agree on that! Last summer when we thought we were losing Sammy, I told Dr. Ruppel in the PICU that Sammy is a better child because of St. Vincent Hospital, but St. Vincents is a better hospital because of Sammy. We are so happy to hear that our "friends" at the hospital are taking care of your entire family in the same loving and caring way that they have taken care of us. Although the journey to recovery is long, we continue to pray that BJ is able to leave the hospital with a huge smile on his face and know that he's made an impact on lives, careers, and other patients who will be at the hospital not only in the present but also in the future!

We continue to lift BJ up in prayer, but we also pray for you as parents. We know that the days (and nights) are long and weary. The emotionally draining days are also physically exhausting days. Being thrown head-on into a medical world is no picnic, and the long-term illness of a child is something that few people can truly understand. If there is ANYTHING that we can do for you, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Dear BJ and Higgins family. . .I know many of us wish we were closer physically so we could be hands and feet, even though much of the "work" of this trial can only be accomplished by your family as you surrround BJ there in the hospital. We must, however, be content to serve in that most important way of all: through effectual, fervent prayer.

I would love to see a form of that map on the site someday as we continue praying and praising God from around the globe!

We pray specifically right now, Our Father, that you will bring healing and strength and function back to BJ's kidneys--that you will allow them to work in the way you have planned. We pray that his fever will decrease and again, Lord, that you will bring blessed healing to His body. Thank you for the blood gas levels, God, and please continue working so the numbers will be what BJ needs.

We are awed at the many ways you have brought glory to Yourself through these days. We plead for your mercy on this young man and on His family as they wait, knowing they will continue following You no matter what. May they each experience You in a very intimate way, surrounded as they are by Your loving care and by the constant prayers of the saints. We praise You, Lord, for Your grace and goodness,

in Jesus' Holy Name,

Amen

I am a friend of Beth Renfroe and have been praying for BJ. Today it hit me that my dad went through a bacterial pneumonia 2 years ago and within 24 hrs the infection had spread over his body and he was at the point of death. At that time, the physicians tried a new antibiotic on him which was called "Xigris". They stated at that time that they were one of a few doctors that could administer the drug. Through prayer and this drug, my Dad was nursed back to health. You may just want to mention to the doctors there to see if this could be a possibility for BJ's recovery. We are keeping you in our prayers.

Lord and Savior, please please heal my brother BJ completely! Please take away his fever and bring his heart rate down to a normal rate. Please bring BJ's SATs back up. Guide the doctors as they try to repair the vein in BJ's leg. We know that you are the Great Physician! Please heal Beej!
Amen

I will be praying consistantly for bj. I live in Kansas City, MO. My friend at church(Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Liberty, MO) was informed by her friend. As a nursing student I understand and appreciate all the medical terms and abbreviations being posted. It helps me to know what to pray for and to understand the situation better.

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

Hey all.
Thanks and praise be to God for all the good things he has blessed you and BJ. It is nothing short of miraculous. I got my pink BJ shirt and will wear it as often as I can throughout the week. B.J.'s story has been such a wonderful way to share the healing power of God to those I could normally not reach. BJ's ministry still continues, he just doesnt know it yet. My prayers will ceaselessly continue for BJ and for Brent, Deanna, Whitney and Lauren. God be with and bless you all,

We continue to check the website often and hold BJ and your family up in prayer since Kent told us about BJ on August 27th. It is difficult for us to understand why God permits such suffering, but we have seen His ways and know that He wants to be glorified in everything.

"But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that you have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you." I Peter 5:10

Higgins family,

We have checked on you all day....bet you didn't know someone was watching, did you? We'll keep praying and are looking forward to some special prayer times tomorrow.

John and I have our small group meeting with Scharbroughs, Gillilands, Bechmans, Whiddons, and Smiths (Ken & Rhonda) Monday evening. These people will be doing some powerful praying! Also, the 7th Grade girls meet for THEIR small group Monday evening also. Rachel Gilliland is their leader, and those girls are powerfully burdened to pray for BJ also.

I'm sure all of these people have been praying constantly, but there's also something beautifully powerful when we pray together, side by side.

Isn't it great that God loves us and each hair on our head?! Uh, Brent, Sr., he loves your head especially.

Praying unceasingly. . . . .

Dear Higgins,
I HAVE A STORY TO TELL YOU!

This morning, before church, I checked on BJ. While I was checking, God told me that He was going to give me the opportunity today to pray at the altar for BJ. Church this morning--nothing.

HOWEVER--tonight at CWC we had a guest preacher. He preached on John 4:46-54 (the healing of the nobleman's son).

He said:

1. When you face an impossible situation, be willing to admit you're powerless to do anything.

2. Simply believe that God will meet your need, before the miracle happens. --The nobleman started for home, just on Jesus' word that his son was healed.

3. When you ask God for a miracle, be prepared for something amazing to happen!

Then, at the close of the service, we sang "'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus" and he asked people to come forward to pray for themselves OR ANOTHER!!

ISN'T GOD AWESOME??!! He had the whole thing planned out in advance!

"Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.
I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: MY PURPOSE WILL STAND, and I will do all that I please."

Isaiah 46:9-10

"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs- heirs of God and coheirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory."
Romans 8:16-17

What a testimony of faith it has been for all of us as we share in your joys and sufferings during this time. BJ is a testimony to a faithful servant and you as a family, a testimony to true faith and trust in our Lord. You all continue to be in our prayers, and we are assured that no matter the outcome, there will be victory.

As an encouragement to your family, we were able to see God's hand in this situation through the t-shirts that were made in honor of BJ. What a special tribute!

Ashley has requested prayer from her pastor and church family in Green River, WY. Your son is touching lives and is being lifted up in so many places, AMEN!

My prayers are with all of you. A friend of mine is one of BJ's nurses ( Melissa Hess), and sent out a prayer request. As a mom of two young children, there is no greater heartache in the world than to see your child sick or in pain. May the Lord be with all of you and give you the strength to make it through this difficult time. As a respiratory therapist in a hospital, I have seen the many miracles that Our Lord and Savior performs every day. Have faith and stay strong.

Tonight I prayed with a small group of adults from Broken Arrow, OK, for BJ. My family is praying, so you can put Riverside, CA, as well as me here now in Tulsa, OK.

I love the Lord. His miracles are new every morning. Praise Jesus for the miracle of BJ's life, the miracle of all God did through him in Peru, the miracle of your whole family changed by this, the miracle of the body joining together in prayer, the miracle of BJ surviving for so long and God daily giving him the strength he needs to overcome each battle. We fully expect that the Lord will meet our every need in this. BJ has attempted great things for God, and now we all expect great things from God.

Jesus I pray that You would bring a peaceful coolness to BJ's body, that his fever would come down, that his heart would beat steady, that his kidneys would grow strong and do their thing. I pray that every part of him would function as you have designed, and that You would cause things in him to happen, strengths are recoveries, more wondrous than seem possible. Amen.

I'm praising and praying with you.
